Created in 2004 as an initiative of the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, Creating Assets, Savings & Hope (CASH) Buffalo works to increase the financial stability of low-to-moderate income families in Buffalo and Erie County.

A coalition of over seventy member organizations - including banks, credit unions, nonprofits, faith and community groups, educational institutions, government agencies, and concerned citizens - CASH Buffalo focuses on a variety of proactive, community-based asset building strategies.
CASH partners help people build solid financial futures by:
  • Increasing income, building savings, gaining & sustaining assets;
  • Increasing dollars coming into low- to moderate-income households from available tax refunds, credits & other income supports;
  • Improving the coordination, reach, quality & consistency of financial education;
  • Increasing awareness of local asset-building opportunities for low-income households, particularly within special populations (refugees, persons with disabilities, veterans);
  • Supporting education & employment opportunities for low- to moderate-income households; and
  • Identifying financial concerns & referring individuals to community agencies with the help of trained volunteers that serve as financial coaches.
Through all these efforts, CASH Buffalo seeks to address these community indicators:
  • Increasing the percentage of eligible families that secure income suppports;
  • Increasing the percentage of low- to moderate-income households regularly using banking services; and
  • Increasing the percentage of households with incomes 200% or more above the Federal poverty line.
